Choosing the Right Teapot: Steel, Porcelain and Glass
27 June 2026 · Berberoğlu Çay

Can the same tea taste different when brewed in different teapots? Yes. The material of the teapot affects how it retains heat, which in turn affects the brew.
Steel teapot
Retains heat well, is durable and practical for everyday use. The upper pot of the Turkish double teapot (çaydanlık) — a staple in most Turkish homes — is usually made of steel.
Porcelain teapot
Retains heat slowly and evenly, preserving the tea's aroma. It does not absorb odours, so the flavour stays clean.
Glass teapot
Lets you admire that beautiful rabbit-blood red colour of the brew. Perfect for those who like to judge the strength of the tea by eye.
The most important thing: brewing time
Whichever teapot you choose, the secret is patience — 25 minutes over a low heat. For the full method, see our brewing guide.
