The Difference Between Black Tea and Green Tea
7 June 2026

Both black tea and green tea are made from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. The key difference lies in the oxidation (fermentation) process.
How is black tea produced?
After picking, the leaves are withered, rolled and left to fully oxidise. This process gives the tea its dark colour, full-bodied flavour and higher caffeine content. Our Berberoğlu black tea range comes from the natural tea gardens of Rize.
How is green tea produced?
For green tea, the leaves are immediately heat-treated to prevent oxidation, resulting in a light-coloured, delicate drink that is rich in antioxidants.
Which should you choose?
- Black tea: The classic Turkish teapot experience — full-bodied flavour and an essential part of Turkish tea culture.
- Green tea: A lighter brew with high antioxidant content.
Both are at their best when natural and additive-free. Browse all our teas.
